Melkus RS2000 will be introduced at Frankfurt Motor Show

The Communist Ferrari, also known as Melkus RS1000, will no longer be the only vehicle to bear the name of the great racing car builder Heinz Melkus. The company that he has founded will once again produce a sportscar, but now it will be called RS2000. Presentation will take place in November.

The car will be about 4 m long and 1.12 m tall, equipped with an 1.8-litre engine whose supplier has not been revealed, but, considering its output, from 150 bhp (112 kW) to 200 bhp (149 kW), we bet that will be Volkswagen. Considering the car will weigh less than 1,000 kg, and that the most powerful version of the car may reach 300 bhp (224 kW), Melkus may earn a reputation for a sportscar producer that will detach it definitely from the "Communist Ferrari" nickname. Even because it is not produced in Cuba or in North Korea...

Besides the lightweight recipe, RS2000 will also be known for its unique gullwing doors. They present removable glasses that can quickly turn it into a targa vehicle. Only 25 RS2000 will be produced every year, since they will be hand built. In 2008, when production is expected to start, 8 units may the light of day. The official presentation will happen at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, in September, while the first deliveries may happen in November.
