LEAKED! - New generation Chevrolet Aveo appears ahead of Detroit Auto Show

Here are the first images of the new Chevrolet Aveo, a relief for all the ones that were expecting the new car to be anything like the South American Agile.



No info has been released so far, but expect the new car to be equipped, in its top version, with the same engine that powers the Cruze, a turbocharged 1.4-litre four cylinder engine able to pump out 140 bhp. More news and images to emerge very soon. Stay with us!

LEAKED! - This is the new Chevrolet Agile

Indian Autos Blog has just published what it says to be the first official image of the new Chevrolet Agile. Check it out below.



We did not have time to talk to them, but all major Brazilian magazines have already published the same image, what confirms this is really the new Agile. Anyway, since the image is not available so far in the official means of communication of GM, the image can be called a leak. No official information on technical specs has been released so far.

Although Agile will be built in Argentina, it has been completely developed in Brazil, at a cost of US$ 400 million, entirely raised by GM do Brasil, or else, with no foreign investments, such as the US taxpayers' money.

Agile must also be produced in the USA, where it is supposed to replace Aveo, something the magazine Motor Trend has already confirmed. The plant of Lake Orion, Michigan, has been chosen to produce the new hatchback, which is set to challenge Ford Fiesta.

The platform of the car is said to be Gamma II, the same one used by the so called Corsa D, the fourth generation of the car. The new Agile will bear a wheelbase of 2.51 m, what will make it be able to face newer small cars, such as Ford Fiesta and the upcoming VW Polo V. Engines are expected to be the same ones already in use in South America, or else, two petrol options, a 105 bhp 1.4-litre and a 129 bhp 1.8-litre. No word, so far, on a diesel option.

Besides the hatchback, in three and five doors, we can expect for a sedan, a pick-up truck and a SUV inspired on the GPix concept.

Buick will have a small crossover based on Agile. GPix will give you a hint

Now that most sources have already confirmed what MotorTips has told about the new Agile being produced in Lake Orion, in Michigan, Automotive News brings us another piece of very interesting information, one that confirms the production of Agile in the USA. According to Automotive News, Buick will have an entry level crossover based on Agile. What they have not told you is that the final forms of this car already exist. The car will be heavily based on the GPix concept, revealed last year at Sao Paulo Auto Show.



It is said that the Buick version of the car will have a four-cylinder 1.6-litre turbocharged engine able to pump out 160 bhp, but this is an engine we have never heard of. We surely expect it so show up, but the engine that is more likely to be under the hood of this new crossover will be the turbocharged 1.4-litre engine that will recharge the batteries of Volt and power the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze.

In Brazil, Agile is expected to use a 105 bhp 1.4-litre flex fuel engine and a 129 bhp 1.8-litre flex fuel engine. What is to be confirmed or not is not far for us to discover. Agile must be well prepared, once it is going to face two strong contenders, the new VW Polo (fifth generation) and the new Ford Fiesta. Not to mention any possible competitor Fiat may give Chrysler should this market segment prove to be attrating North American buyers. Besides the crossover based on GPix, there will also come to life a small minivan, a sedan and a pick-up truck. It is possible some of them will also reach the USA market.

OFFICIAL! - New Chevrolet Viva Project will be called Agile

The new small world car from Chevrolet will not be called Viva, as we expected. It is a pity, since this name was already cherished by many. In place of it, GM has chosen the name Agile, what can cause some confusion with Opel Agila, but why make it simple and original if you can complicate things, right?



The real name first came up with Chevrolet Blog at the beginning of this month and was confirmed in the weekend by a huge Brazilian magazine, Veja (over 1 million copies sold every week). With that, GM decided to make it official today at the website of the new car, which is www.elnuevochevrolet.com. There there is a movie that quotes most of the websites that have already published something about the car, including Argentina Auto Blog, one of the most important car blogs in South America and always a step ahead in information about Project Viva. Today, for example, it has brought the official name and pictures of the future car, made by its readers Adrián Mitteroder and Santiago Fassio. Have a look.

Superior Glass Works gives 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Nomad 25 chances to live

In 1954, General Motors was in its best form and could choose what to see or not to customers. One of these products, presented at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, in New York, during the Motorama event, was the Corvette Nomad, a station wagon based on the North American automotive icon. It never reached production (not as it was presented, once there was a 1955 Chevrolet Nomad), but Brad and Donna Peterson, owners of Superior Glass Works, have decided to give this great looking car a chance to come to life. In fact, it will have 25 chances to do so as the Superior 54 Sport Wagon.



Only 25 of these beautiful cars will leave Superior Glass Works at a cost of US$ 125,000 each. But do not be mistaken: "Superior Glass Works does not produce complete ‘turn-key’ cars. They will be shipped without paint or interior", said Brad Peterson to MotorTips. Therefore, the cars will be sold as Complete Rolling Packages, what includes a fiberglass and balsa reinforced plastic body, a set of custom-crafted window glass and chrome trim, power windows, power door locks, air-conditioning, custom frame (designed and built with Art Morrison Enterprises), with Morrison’s front cross member, steering arms, sway bar, power rack and pinion steering and the Corvette C5 suspension.

The car has been prepared to accecpt any LS-Series Chevrolet V8, what includes the fantastic LS9 that powers the Corvette ZR1. " An engine is not provided with the base package, but can be provided as an added-cost option", states Peterson.

The car you see in the pictures is the Superior 54 Sport Wagon that will be presented at the 2009 MSRA's Back to the 50s, an event that will happen from June 19 to June 21, 2009 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The official public presentation of the car will be there. According to Peterson, the car "will be more finished than what you see in those pictures". If the car already looks gorgeous unfinished, we can imagine what it will become in its final form. And in the hands of those able to pay US$ 125,000.

Ugur Sahin Design and Mallett present the new Z03

Most people would never change a Chevrolet Corvette, especially in countries where this is a rare car. In the USA, this automotive icon may seem a lot more common, what makes some gorgeous creations with a Corvette base possible. The most recent example for that is the new Z03, a car designed by Ugur Sahin Design, or simply USD, and powered by Mallett Cars.



Since it is not a new car, but a conversion based on the Corvette C6, anyone interested in having a Z03 will have to buy the donor car first, what will not be cheap by any means. After that, you will have to pay US$ 69,000 for the carbon fibre bodywork. If you want the Mallett power touch, include in that bill US$ 32,700 for a 700 bhp supercharged LS7 V8 or US$ 35,795 for the biturbo version of the same engine, able to produce 999 bhp.
